In July of 2000, Western Costume found gold. That was when we were fortunate to purchase Source III: The Dorothy Weaver Collection. Operated in New York City for thirty years, and owned by two-time Emmy Award winning Costumer, the legendary Dorothy Weaver, it is one of the world's most pristine costume collections
The collection has a strong emphasis on period clothing from 1860 through 1970, with a prominent selection of women's turn-of-the-century through 1940's garments. The clothing is accompanied by a handsome selection of vintage shoes, hats and handbags. The addition of this collection to Western's already impressive inventory has helped bridge gaps in the stock that would ordinarily take years to fill.
Even before Western Costume's staff was able to completely unpack the clothing, garments and accessories were pulled directly from their shipping cartons to be used in several films, including Woody Allen's "The Curse of the Jade Scorpion," and Julie Taymer's "Frida."
The immaculate care and restoration of the Dorothy Weaver Collection sets it apart from other collections of its kind. Each piece of clothing has been expertly repaired and preserved, practically restoring them to their original condition. A collection of this caliber is an extremely rare treasure.
Dorothy Weaver was an avid collector, who in addition to costume, collected art and antiques. After years of accumulating museum quality clothing, Dorothy Weaver opened Source III in 1970 and it quickly became one of New York's premier sources of costume rentals for television, films and print work.
Today, Dorothy's 40,000-piece collection of superior vintage clothing is housed in Western Costume's newly designed, 4,000 square foot "Dorothy Weaver Room," which has become quite an attraction for Hollywood's top Designers and Costumers.
