Dating from the 1820s to the 1980s, "The Collection" at Western Costume features an impressive selection of world-class clothing. Created by combining a number of renowned private collections including those of Dorothy Weaver, Patti Norris, and Helen Larson, these wonderful pieces are housed in their own climate-controlled area. Both men’s and women’s period clothing and accessories have been seen in Academy award winning films including “The Aviator, “Walk the Line,” “Chicago,’ “Frida,” and “The Artist,” and Emmy winning television programs such as “Mad Men” and “Boardwalk Empire.”
In 2009, Western purchased the Dykeman-Young Collection located in Jamestown, New York. Shipped to Los Angeles in six 53-foot long containers, this vast collection of 50,000 items is known for it’s impressive inventory of elegant evening wear, as well as 20th century work wear. The Dykeman-Young pieces are easily identified by their bright pink tags and labels, and have their own barcoding system.
