Uniforms

UniformWestern Costume houses one of the largest collections of modern and period uniforms available anywhere. Western has literally costumed entire armies for the movies, from the Union and Confederate Civil War uniforms for D.W. Griffith's epic, "The Birth of a Nation" and Buster Keaton's "The General," to the Gulf War uniforms of "Three Kings."

Western's uniform collection has also been used to dress actual armies. Due to an extreme shortage after the attack on Pearl Harbor, Western was able to lend uniforms to the California National Guard, as Western's inventory was the only source large enough to meet the demand. When the United States Air Force needed a new uniform to clothe its cadets at the new Air Force Academy, they chose Western Costume to design them.

Although best known for it's period uniforms, Western's recent 2.5 million dollar expansion of the modern military department has given Western the ability to costume practically any war from the beginning of time through present day. But soldiers aren't the only people who wear uniforms. BadgesWestern Costume has heavily invested in expanding its Police and Fire Department Uniforms as well, enabling us to reconstruct those of most major cities in the United States and abroad. Beyond military and police, Western Costume also takes pride in its civilian uniform department, which includes prison, hospital, postal, livery, school, hotel and restaurant uniforms.

Custom orders are never a problem at Western Costume. When it came time to film Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence's comedy, "Life," the Costume Designer wanted exact replicas of the 1930's prison gang uniforms. Western had the fabric specially woven, and then manufactured, in-house, the authentic uniforms. These very costumes are now part of Western's regular stock. Western Costume also manufactured 30 new Colonial uniforms for the United States' 200th Anniversary.

Executive Vice President Frank Allegro is a costume house veteran and brings 20 years of experience and dedication to his department. Heading the Department's staff is Military uniform expert Kurt Cox, who has written several books and articles on military costume. The high level of expertise of the department's personnel, combined with their attention to detail, assure that each uniform that Western Costume constructs is historically accurate, from head to toe.
